Having made various mistakes due to a lack of preparation, I now put special effort into planning. In late March, I started creating some hand sketches and Rhinoceros drawings for the project. Initially, I had planned a vertical structure made of steel and glass, and I had printed a sample of it. What was different this time was that I had a customer involved who had different ideas about the final product. After some communication and sharing sample photos, I redesigned it to meet the main criteria of using walnut wood for the construction and using the glass plates that the customer already had, as well as similar measurements to the USM Haller 2x3 Sideboard (a German design classic). Once the design was finalised, I ordered the materials and planned the production. The only items to order were the sideboard feet, as I had collected the walnut wood from a private seller who had previously used the planks for wall decoration. During production, I encountered a problem with the wood bending because it was not perfectly dry, as it would be if it had been purchased professionally. Consequently, I could only use half of the wood I bought effectively. Otherwise, the assembly and documentation went smoothly. I rented a studio and took the pictures myself for the first time, which is definitely something I have to improve for the next project.
